Effective Altruists of Berkeley is founded on the idea that when it comes to helping others, good intentions are a good start, but they’re not enough. We aim to make not just a difference, but the most difference.
We represent a larger growing movement of scholars, philosophers, scientists, and activists who are trying to use evidence and reason to help answer one basic question: "What is the best way to use my money, time, talent, and voice to improve the world as much as possible?"
This is a really, really, really tough question. It's scary. It's ambiguous. It can be uncomfortable. There are as many ways to answer it as there are people, and no one has it all figured out yet.
Our primary goal at EAB is to challenge Berkeley students to make this question an important part of their lives and give them the resources to answer it well. Among other things, we:
